Since 1954, fans have flocked to Knoxville Raceway to experience the most exhilarating and intense dirt track racing in the world. Top drivers come to Knoxville, Iowa, to compete for prestigious racing titles in events like the Knoxville Nationals, Knoxville Championship Cup Series and the Late Model Knoxville Nationals. As the Sprint Car Capital of the World, Knoxville Raceway has developed into a tradition, legacy and leader in dirt track and open wheel racing.
The Knoxville community during this time opens their homes, yards, etc to about 20,000 plus visitors. From coordinating housing, offering parking spaces/passes, city wide garage sales, business specials to the Saturday parade, you'll find the people of Knoxville involved and giving a hand when needed. This event could not be successful if not for the people in the community and helping make things happen.Knoxville Raceway seats more than 20,000 race fans and also has 22 VIP suites above the frontstretch grandstands. Knoxville Raceway is the fourth-largest sports venue, by seating capacity, in the state of Iowa.
For nearly 60 years, the greatest sprint car drivers have traveled to Iowa to compete in the prestigious Knoxville Nationals. Held annually on the second Saturday of August, the four day event sees nearly 100 cars from more than 30 states and five countries compete for the title of "Knoxville Nationals Champion".
The unique format of the Knoxville Nationals makes every lap on the track important. Drivers score points for each performance, from qualifying to heat races, to preliminary night feature events. The champion at the end of the week not only writes his or her name into the history books but also walks away with the $150,000 prize -- the highest in all of sprint car racing
